Week 3 EOC: My Demographic

My demographic would be Generation Y or a Millennial. I would agree with the textbook on the point of us being very comfortable with digital technology. Growing up and being introduced to all of this new technology really helped to further understand it all I myself never seem to have a problem with any new device that I am able to get my hands on. I’m always wanting the new thing and constantly looking for it. I agree with the internet usage.it most definitely a way of life to me I think I would be completely lost without my phone on me which is kind of scary to think. I spend a majority of my time online.as far as the traditional household goes my household consisted of a single mom working a lot to help support me and my siblings. Once I got old enough I did take care of myself and siblings and would go home after school and wait for my mom to get home from work. As for as customization goes I would agree with that as well, I’m always looking for a way to make something my own and completely original. I agree with the book saying we are all diverse. Living where I’m at now I know a lot of people my age of all different races and nationalities so the point of us being diverse is true. I would say I agree with most of all the statements made about my demographic.

Week 3 EOC: Making money for good

Tide’s “Loads of hope” is a perfect example of a company making money for a good cause.  Essentially what Tide does is provide clean clothes for victims of disasters by providing a basic laundromat on wheels by washing, drying, and folding clothes.  A quote off of their website that I enjoyed was “Because, as we’ve learned, sometimes even the littlest things can make a big, big difference” (http://www.tide.com/en-US/loads-of-hope/about.jspx). What that means to me is that even in the face of adversity even the littlest thing such as clean clothes can really lift your spirits and help you to get back onto your feet.  Another company that makes money for a good cause is Oakley Sunglasses they are partnered up with “YOUNG SURVIVAL COALITION” which is a non- profit organization that helps to battle breast cancer which in the US more than 250,000 women under 40 are living with breast cancer. What Oakley does is provide $20 from each sale of their special edition glasses and 10% of each sale from their special edition apparel which includes hoodies and tees with the all familiar pink ribbon. (http://www.oakley.com/women/ysc/). Another example of companies making money for good cause would be the soap Dawn dishwashing soap. They take a different approach to reach out and help the wildlife around the world. They have been at it for over 30 years now in helping rescuers help clean up wildlife from oil pollutions. When you buy a bottle of Dawn you can go activate your donation online using a specific code printed on the bottle, once activated Dawn will donate $1 with up to $500,000 to its wildlife conservation partners which include “The Marine Mammal Center” and “The international Bird Rescue” (http://wildlife.dawn-dish.com/en_US/savingwildlife/dhlanding.do)

Week 2 EOC: Boston Consulting Group - Video Games
Nintendo’s Wii in my opinion is a cash cow simply because I don’t think it can compete with other consoles but the fact that it caters more to family friendly games it keeps it around and Nintendo will keep making more and more games. “Nintendo is viewed as a more wholesome, family-oriented company exclusively specializing in user-friendly gaming consoles and peripherals.” (http://www.mcafee.cc/Classes/BEM106/Papers/2007/Sony_Strategy.pdf). So that means parents are more likely buying this console and games for their kids to enjoy. Sony’s PlayStation console again would be a cash cow. I think in anticipation for their new PlayStation project no one is out buying brand new ps3 consoles. What Sony always seems to do is just slim down the size of the consoles and resell them which is just bringing in more money. “But Sony is the company that has consistently produced the best selling systems and games, lead by their PlayStation hardware.”  (http://cmvlive.com/technology/sony-release-slim-ps3. A cash cow turned star has to be the Xbox 360 with the addition of the Kinect motion system. It’s probably the only reason that we got an Xbox at our house. “The Kinect was released in early November last year to immediate success; after selling 8 million units in the first 60 days, it entered the Guinness World Records as the Fastest Selling Consumer Electronics Device.” (http://www.industrygamers.com/news/microsoft-kinect-one-year-later/). The thought of you actually being able to control the characters on screen with your own body definitely was a big part of its success, It plays a lot better than the motion controls of Nintendo’s Wii in my opinion.  A definite star in the gaming market is the games on the go. “Handheld gaming, driven by the low-cost games for the Apple iOS and Google Android platforms, continues to take a larger chunk of video-game revenue”. (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2383646,00.asp). Just having the convenience of being able to pull out your phone and play a game to kill some time is what helps this market stay alive and keep growing

Week 1 EOC: great customer service

We all have car troubles and my problem in particular was my car battery. One day I went to go turn on my car and it just would not start. I immediately knew what the problem was and got a ride to the local autozone with my car battery in hand. As I arrived to autozone I was greeted by the employees and was immediately attended to. I told them what I believed the problem was and they knew what to do and ran the proper test on my car battery. Upon testing the employee told me that I indeed needed a new car battery. It turns out that the battery was bought at a junk yard and they were surprised that it was still running for as long as I have had it. When they looked up my car battery that I needed on their database it turned out that they did not have it at their particular store. With no hesitation the guy helping me called another store which was a couple blocks away and found the battery for me which was not very expensive and came with a 5 year warranty which I find very useful. So the man helping gave me directions and sent me on my way to get by car battery.I found this experience very positive and have since then always shopped at this particular autozone. Whenever I need anything I can go there and know that I will be treated as a valued customer. They do a really good job of making you feel welcome not only to me but to other customers aswell. “Marketing is managing profitable customer relationships” (p3) with my experience at autozone they have definitely kept great service to keep my relationship with them strong.
